To the Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party:
“WE WILL NOT STAND FOR HATE”
We recently learned that State Rep. Bob Burns has repeatedly called into the St. Louis-area Bob Romanik radio show with support for the white supremacist host, who makes ongoing vile, racist, homophobic and misogynistic on-air statements.
Romanik’s expressions of hate and heinous attacks on numerous elected officials and minority groups are extreme. It is unacceptable that Rep. Burns supported and praised this host as a long-time friend in multiple on-air calls to the program.
Those publicly calling for his resignation from office include: U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber, House Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty, Assistant Minority Leader Gina Mitten, Minority Whip Kip Kendrick, Minority Caucus Chair Michael Butler, Minority Caucus Secretary DaRon McGee, Minority Caucus Vice-Chair Crystal Quade and the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus along with other legislators.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Kansas City Star editorial boards have also called for Rep. Burns’ resignation. However, Rep. Burns has refused to step down.
We cannot tolerate this appalling behavior and acceptance of hate by a Missouri Democratic legislator who is a candidate for re-election.
We demand the Missouri Democratic Party rescind Rep. Burns’ party membership and not allow his candidacy as a Democrat on the November 2018 ballot.
We also demand any official, including Lewis Reed, President of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, who has received donations from Bob Romanik donate them immediately to Missouri NAACP, PROMO and Planned Parenthood.
Signed,
Missouri State Rep. Bruce Franks Jr.
Missouri State Rep. Stacey Newman
