Stop Unfair Property Assessments

Members of the New Orleans City Council

The City Council has called for an immediate vote to certify our tax assessment rolls before a legislative audit has been completed.

Please take a moment to sign the petition to urge them to Vote NO on certifying our tax assessment rolls and kick it back to the Assessor’s Office.

GNOHA is fighting to stop further displacement due to rising housing costs. New Orleans property assessments increased by an average of 23%, and the Sewage and Water Board is pushing for a roll forward to increase our taxes.

Demand the New Orleans City Council protect homeowners and renters by voting to not certify the tax assessment rolls this year.

I join with New Orleans residents in calling on you to keep your word and leverage your power as Board of Review to NOT CERTIFY the 2024 Quadrennial Assessment and kick it back to the Assessor’s Office.

The 2024 Quadrennial Assessment shows an average 23% increase in property assessments for homeowners in Orleans Parish. Around 6,000 properties saw an increase of over 50%. This hurts homeowners and renters.

You introduced a resolution “urging the Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA) and the Louisiana Tax Commission (LTC) to review the Assessor’s 2023 Quadrennial Assessment to determine if the Assessor violated any LTC policies or Louisiana state laws, particularly urging the inspection of whether the Assessor engaged in the LTC-prohibited practice of ‘sales chasing’.” Last time an audit was conducted, very little changed, and the fact that another audit is being requested shows that the Council does not believe that the Quadrennial Assessment was conducted in good faith.

With rising interest rates, insurance costs, and the potential for increased property taxes, a perfect storm is forming that will push people out of their homes and lead to mass displacement of long-term residents.

I support GNOHA in fighting against further displacement due to rising housing costs and urge you to VOTE NO ON CERTIFYING OUR TAX ASSESSMENT ROLLS THIS YEAR.
