The Coronavirus (Covid-19) is now a global pandemic. In the United States, the Center for Disease Control estimates that 160 million to 214 million Americans could be infected with an upper estimate of nearly 2 million deaths. Health experts worldwide are calling for people to isolate themselves in their homes as much as they possibly can. This will slow the spread of the virus and (hopefully) prevent hospitals from being overrun with sick and dying people.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, you have ordered that bars, restaurants and other social gathering places be closed.

Because of our interconnected digital world, most of us can remain productive while working at home. Unfortunately, some Maryland employers continue to insist that employees, even those who can perform their assigned duties from home, report to the workplace. This practice is putting all of us at unnecessary risk.

We therefore petition you - Governor Hogan - to issue forthwith an executive order mandating that employers permit all employees who can work remotely to do so.
