Raises for Red Cross Workers by State

The American Red Cross has agreed to provide its employees in Illinois with raises of 13-25%. They've also agreed to increase wages by 3% plus $2 per hour in Minnesota. In both states' portions of these raises were retroactive to October 1, 2021.

But for Wisconsin and Iowa, the Badger-Hawkeye region, they are trying to force the workers to accept 1.5%-3% prospective raises and threatening to eliminate their hard-won healthcare plan if they don’t agree.

The company continues to refuse to agree to their proposals around provisions for safe footwear and clothing for those loading trucks daily as well as the very real problems of last-minute mandations.

Please stand with them and add your name to this petition. The Badger-Hawkeye workers are not worth less than Illinois' or Minnesota's.

We, the undersigned, ask you to show the same concern for your employees in Wisconsin and Iowa that your organization has demonstrated for those in Illinois and Minnesota. Inflation is eroding take-home pay at over 8% for this year alone, and your workers in the Badger-Hawkeye Region haven't received any raises for either this year or last. Inflation does not end at the state line. The Red Cross Badger Hawkeye region cannot attract and retain the vital workforce needed to engage in the complex blood collection and processing procedures to supply our hospitals. Our nation's blood supply depends on these skilled workers, and they are struggling immensely under the short-staffing and constant turnover that result from substandard Badger Hawkeye wages.

We call on the Red Cross to treat its workers in Wisconsin and Iowa fairly and to agree to a necessary and fair contract with increases equal to those it has already agreed are required in the neighboring states.
