Stop the Renewal of UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese!

UNHRC President Jürg Lauber, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, U.S. President Trump, British PM Starmer, German Chancellor Scholz, EU High Representative Kallas, French President Macron, Italian PM Meloni, Canadian PM Carney, Swiss FM Cassis

On April 1st, the UN Human Rights Council is planning to quietly renew the mandate of Hamas apologist Francesca Albanese for another 3 years. This must be stopped.

Pursuant to HRC 8/PRST/2, we request that on April 1st the UNHRC not renew the 3-year term of Francesca Albanese, given her persistent and egregious non-compliance with the Code of Conduct.

As President of the UNHRC, Swiss Ambassador Jürg Lauber is obligated to convey cases of persistent non-compliance to the Council, especially prior to the renewal of mandate-holders. Given her severe and repeated breaches of conduct, the Council must ensure that Albanese's term is not renewed.

For far too long, Francesca Albanese has abused her UN mandate to spread antisemitism and Hamas propaganda.

UN Watch's 60-page report, Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, documents in detail how Albanese propagates antisemitism and jihadi terrorism.

The list of Albanese's disgraceful statements and actions that promote antisemitism and terrorism is vast:

  • Albanese wrote that “America is subjugated by the Jewish Lobby” in an UNRWA fundraiser letter that she posted on Facebook. She was condemned for this by the U.S. Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism.
  • Albanese routinely portrays Israelis as Nazis.
  • In November 2022, Albanese told a Hamas conference: “You have a right to resist.”
  • Since October 7th, Albanese has systematically whitewashed Hamas’ atrocities.
  • Albanese denied that the October 7th pogrom was the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust, for which she became the first Special Rapporteur in history to be condemned for antisemitism by France as well as Germany.
  • France wrote to her that “The October 7 massacre is the biggest antisemitic massacre of the 21st century,” and “to deny it is wrong.” France said it was “scandalous” and “a disgrace” for her “to appear to justify it, by dragging in the name of the United Nations.”
  • Germany said it was “appalling” for the Special Rapporteur “to justify the horrific terror attacks and to “deny their antisemitic nature.” Germany said Albanese’s remarks were “a disgrace.”

On top of all this, she refuses to disclose her expenses or payments illegally received by her office from non-UN actors.

We urge all countries to call on UNHRC President Jürg Lauber to convey Francesca Albanese's persistent non-compliance with the Code of Conduct to the Council to block her renewal, and to support UN Watch's resolution to terminate her mandate altogether.

For far too long, Francesca Albanese has abused her UN mandate to spread Hamas propaganda.

She is the first UN special rapporteur in history to be condemned by France, Germany and the U.S. for antisemitism.

On top of this, she refuses to disclose her expenses or payments illegally received by her office from non-UN actors.

Enough is enough. It's time for the UN to fire Francesca Albanese now.
