Free Laundry for University of Cincinnati Students
University of Cincinnati
The University of Cincinnati prides itself on being an institution which provides access to education for an economically diverse student body. As students at UC, we see it as our duty to hold the university to this vision. Students at UC already face a substantial financial burden in attending college. We believe that offering free laundry is a reasonable and necessary step in making education accessible to students of all financial backgrounds.
Access to hygiene resources plays a critical role in students’ mental, physical, and professional wellbeing. Lack of access to these resources can place serious strain on low-income students. This is one of the many obstacles these students face which directly contradicts UC’s stated mission to provide an inclusive environment for all students.
Students at UC are disappointed to see our administration trailing behind other Ohio universities that have already taken this necessary step. Universities such as Northern Kentucky University, Ohio State University, Xavier University, Kent State, Case Western Reserve University, Bowling Green State University, & Wright State University have made student life more manageable by providing free laundry. There is no excuse for the University of Cincinnati’s failure to match these institutions.
Clean clothes are a necessity for all, regardless of financial status. We, the undersigned, request that the University of Cincinnati unconditionally provide free laundry services to all full and part-time university students.
