Dear Congressman Steve Cohen,

As constituents of District 9, we are greatly distressed and disturbed by the ongoing violence inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza. The Israeli government's total assault has taken countless lives and continues to cause untold suffering. We call on you to use your influence to demand an immediate ceasefire. We also urge you to stop funding and arming the Israeli government, and take personal responsibility for your investments in companies that directly benefit and contribute to genocide and conflict in Palestine.

The U.S. provides approximately $3.9 billion annually in military aid to Israel (source: congressional research service). This funding is used, among other things, for the purchase of weapons that are being used to violate international law and commit human rights violations. According to Human Rights Watch's report on May 27 2021, Israeli forces have committed apparent war crimes during the recent hostilities with Hamas in Gaza.

Again, we implore you Congressman Cohen to (1) call for an immediate ceasefire, (2) discontinue voting for bills that fund the Israel state and military, and (3) divest from companies like Raytheon, known for manufacturing weapons used in this horrific conflict.

This is not just about politics; it's about human lives. We believe that as our representative, you have a moral obligation towards peace and justice. By taking these actions, you can honor the wishes of your constituents and set an example for other leaders by playing a significant role in ending this cycle of violence.
