Freedom for Quincy/Justice for Jessica

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear

In the summer of 2000, 18-year-old Jessica Currin was found murdered in the small town of Mayfield, Kentucky. Two suspects were initially charged in connection with her death; however, those charges were dropped after the local DA lost the evidence against them. Several years later and after mounting public pressure to solve the case, police charged a new group of people based on allegations of three local Mayfield girls who said they had witnessed the crime. The new group of suspects included a young man named Quincy Cross who was not from the area. Although Cross had not even met one of his co-defendants until two years after the murder occurred, and to this day, has still never met his other co-defendants, he was convicted of Jessica's death based solely on the testimony of the the three local girls who then later recanted their stories stating that they had made up the stories due to the combination of police pressure and the lure of reward money. Despite no forensic evidence to link him to the crime and the fact that he still has never met some of his co-defendants, Quincy Cross was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole and remains wrongfully incarcerated to this day. Both Quincy's family and Jessica's family believe that Quincy was wrongfully convicted, and that Jessica's real killer or killers have not been brought to justice. The Kentucky Innocence Project has taken up Quincy's case, but as his case works its way through the slow process of courts, Quincy continues to suffer in prison while the real perpetrator(s) of this horrific crime have not been brought to justice. This petition is asking Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to pardon and release Quincy Cross based on overwhelming evidence of innocence and re-open the Jessica Currin murder case so that her real killer(s) are brought to justice and her family can find closure and justice.

Dear Governor Beshear,

I am writing today to ask you to grant a pardon for Quincy Cross based on overwhelming evidence of innocence. Quincy Cross was convicted of the brutal murder of Jessica Currin despite no forensic evidence that linked him to the crime.

In addition to there being no physical evidence that linked Quincy to the crime, Quincy had not even known his co-defendants at the time the crime occurred. Both Quincy's family and Jessica's family believe that Quincy is innocent of this crime and that the real killer or killers have not been held accountable.

The Kentucky Innocence Project has taken up Quincy's case, but as his appeals work their way through the court system, he has remained incarcerated for nearly 15 years for a crime he did not commit while the real killers have not been brought to justice for their heinous acts.

Continuing to hold Quincy in prison while there is overwhelming evidence of his innocence is unconscionable and an affront to the Currin family and the institution of justice as a whole.
I implore you to contact the Kentucky Innocence Project and look over the facts of the case and pardon Quincy Cross based on innocence and re-open the Jessica Currin murder case so that her real killer or killers can be brought to justice and her family can finally have closure.

Thank you,
