Full-Time Specialists Matter

Racine Unified School District Board of Education

On March 20th, the Racine Board of Education unilaterally eliminated the guarantee that students in EVERY school have full-time specialists for art, music, and physical education. This is an unacceptable cutback for our students. It affects their access to art, music, physical education, as well as their classroom teachers' time to plan and prepare meaningful lessons for our children. It is also unacceptable that parents and educators were not consulted prior to this major change.

On Monday, April 24, the educators of the Racine Education Association will give public input at the regular Board of Education meeting to let them know that educators of this community want what is best for all of our children.

Join parents and educators in demanding that the Board of Education reverse these cuts and engage in real discussion with stakeholders before making any changes. Please sign this petition and join us if you are able to do so on April 24 when we share signed petitions and publicly speak to the issue. Our children deserve a thoughtful plan going forward.

We join with our educators in demanding that the Board of Education reverse cuts to full-time specialists for art, music, and physical education. We demand that RUSD engage in real discussion with stakeholders, including parents and educators, before making any changes. Our children deserve a respectful process and a thoughtful plan going forward.

Respectfully,
The parents of Racine Unified children and concerned community members
