Fund Our Schools 2020
MCPS BoE, Montgomery County Council
For years, we have been falling further and further behind – shortchanging our students and our schools. That has to stop. Join us in demanding that the MCPS Board of Education submit, and the County Council approve an education budget that includes an additional $100 million ($1.65 per student, per day) over the bare minimum required by law in order to:
1. Help close the opportunity gap;
2. Provide staffing to meet state standards in technology, health, and fine arts;
3. Increase the number of counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals; and
4. Meet the legally mandated educational rights of special education students.

We the undersigned are deeply concerned about the chronic underfunding of our public schools. Communities across the nation are standing up and fighting for the school’s students deserve. We as union members, voters, educators, parents, and students send this strong message to the County Council and the MCPS Board of Education: Now is the time to fund our schools! We demand that our elected representatives invest in our students’ future.
We call on the Board of Education to submit, and the Montgomery County Council to approve, an education budget that includes an additional $100 million ($1.65 per student per day) over the bare minimum required by law in order to:
1. Help close the opportunity gap;
2. Provide staffing to meet state standards in technology, health, and fine arts;
3. Increase the number of counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals; and
4. Meet the legally mandated educational rights of special education students.
