Good Jobs Now Petition

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, CMS Administrator, Chiquita Brooks-Lasure

Fourteen years ago this week, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and this year more than 21 million Americans enrolled in affordable coverage through the ACA marketplaces. The hard truth is that while the Affordable Care Act is a good policy, its success was built on the backs of workers.

Federal call center workers employed by a massive for-profit company called Maximus are struggling to make ends meet with low wages and unaffordable health coverage. According to a recent survey, many of the same workers who help millions of Americans access affordable coverage through the ACA and Medicare cannot afford to go to the doctor because of the high costs of Maximus’ health plan.

Meanwhile, Maximus gave its CEO, Bruce Caswell, a raise of over $1 million last year.

This is wrong. The Biden Administration has been clear that it believes all jobs should be “good jobs” with living wages, family-sustaining benefits, job security and career opportunities. Federal call center workers at Maximus have none of these things, but they work for a federal contractor with a $6.6 billion contract.

Secretary Becerra, That’s why we are demanding that you follow through on the Biden Administration’s commitment to “good jobs” and make sure that Maximus offers good jobs for federal call center workers.
