Homes for people, not homes for cars: Tell Gov Newsom to sign AB 2097!

The good news: AB 2097 passed the Legislature! This law would reduce costly parking mandates, which make it more expensive to build housing near transit. Essentially, it would create more homes for people, not homes for cars. In order to make California more affordable and environmentally sustainable, we need to make it less expensive for people to live near transit.
The bad news: We’re worried that Governor Newsom is going to veto it.
What you can do about it: Sign our petition TODAY and urge him to sign AB 2097. Tell him that we need bold climate action & that you prioritize homes for people over spaces for cars! He has to sign it before the end of September.Sponsored by

I am writing to you as a California resident urging you to sign Assemblymember Laura Friedman’s AB2097, which would enable more homes to be built by reducing costly parking requirements near transit.
Parking requirements are an exclusionary practice that increases the cost of housing, increases the value of scarce land and denies additional affordable homes in dense, infill places for underused spaces for cars.
This year’s heat wave has shown how dire our climate emergency is. As a climate leader, you can take another bold step by signing AB2097. Housing and providing homes for those experiencing homelessness has been a top priority of the state. Signing AB 2097 is a win-win for both.
You can take a brave step to unlocking new homes, create new affordable communities and provide roofs over heads instead of spaces for cars. Please sign AB 2097 and help make California a more inclusive, affordable and climate friendly state!
