Petition Calling for Washington State Colleges and Universities to Divest From Fossil Fuel Companies
Washington Higher Educational Institutions
Institutional Climate Action (ICA) - is a climate justice divestment coalition made up of students, faculty, and staff from Washington State’s publicly funded higher education institutions. We are organizing in solidarity for divestment from fossil fuel companies. We believe that our public institutions of higher education must model the equitable and just transition that’s required to confront the climate crisis and establish a more healthy and sustainable future.
We are organizing in solidarity with other colleges and universities across Washington State, to hold our public institutions of higher education accountable for their current and future climate-altering investments and impacts from extractive industries. To achieve this goal ICA is advocating for these five demands.
1. Declare the Climate Crisis as an emergency that requires a just response
2. Implement sustainable changes on campus to equitably address the climate crisis
3. Divest all endowments & pensions from fossil fuel investments by 2025
4. Re-invest at least 2.5% of endowments and/or pensions into equitable climate solutions
5. Commit to carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2040
Sign the petition and join other Washington residents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni calling for the end of investment of Washington's colleges and universities in the fossil fuel industry.
