Install Traffic Light at Vargas Rd. & Riverside Dr.

With over 1,000 apartment developments at the intersection of Vargas Rd., a main feeder into the Montopolis Community, and Riverside Dr. traffic has increased dramatically yet there is no traffic signal there. As a result, several accidents and near-misses have occured at this intersection. The lack of a traffic light at this intersection creates a dangerous situation for drivers, pedrestrians, cyclists and most importantly the students of Idea Montopolis and Allison Elementary, also located on Vargas Rd. We need to protect our children, so PODER is asking the City of Austin to install a traffic signal at that intersection.

I am writing to request the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of
Vargas Rd. and Riverside Dr. in Austin, Texas. This is due to the increase of apartments being developed along the East Riverside Corridor Master Plan. The lack of a traffic light at this intersection has created a dangerous situation for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and most importantly the students of Idea Montopolis and Allison Elementary.
As a resident of this community, I have personally witnessed several accidents and near-misses at this intersection. it has become very difficult to make a left turn from Vargas Rd. The lack of a traffic light has made it difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic and has made it dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the street as there is no crosswalk at this intersection.
I believe that the installation of a traffic light at this intersection would greatly improve safety for all who use it and it would also improve the flow of traffic in this already congested area. I urge you to take action on this matter as soon a possible.
