PARKING FEES ARE A NO GO

TIRED OF PAYING HUNDREDS IN PARKING FEES AND STILL NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND A CONVENIENT SPOT ?

The Department of Transportation Services currently received over $9.2 million dollars in parking registration fees from faculty, staff and students and an additional $42,000 dollars from the Sustainable UMD fund endorsed by university president, Dr. Wallace Loh. Let's not forget about the $3 million dollars in visitors parking, $466,000 in special events services, and $129,000 in parking violations.

THAT'S JUST ABOUT $13 MILLION IN PARKING REVENUE

With all of the money circulating on campus over the past 5 years, campus administrators still insist on eliminating vehicle parking spaces, lifting the 7% cap on parking fees and increasing bike parking.

The employees, faculty and students at the University of Maryland are tired of being price gouged by campus administration. With parking registration fees climbing up to $1,000 yearly and the lack of access to campus buildings due to transportation deserts created by the Department of Transportation Services enough is enough.

Do you think parking fees at UMD are too high?

Do you think it’s fair that parking fees go up every year but the number of parking spots doesn’t?

Join the fight and sign this petition! The employees at the University of Maryland, collectively, AFSCME Local 1072 are leading the way in abolishing parking fees for all but we can't do it without you.

If you are a faculty, staff, student or visitor and you are tired of being marginalized by the transportation deserts on campus, or tired of being price gouged by excessing parking fees, you will want to sign this petition.

No More Parking Fees !

I support the initiative started by AFSCME Local 1072 to eliminate parking fees for staff, students and faculty who park on campus.

The University is at the forefront of higher education institutions. It is building a reputation of seeking out both faculty and students who are the creators of “fearless ideas”. This institution works because the staff embraces its work and believes in “fearless ideas.” However, parking fees are not a “fearless idea”. Parking fees should not be a means of generating revenue from those who do the work and from those who pay to attend.
