Justice for Dezaree Archuleta - Civilian Oversight NOW
El Paso County Sherriff's Office

Just in the last year there have been 8 deaths in the El Paso County Jail, and nearly double that since 2020. These victims were disproportionately people of color. Neglect from employees of El Paso County Sheriff's Office led directly to many of these preventable deaths. Dezaree Archuleta, who had been placed on suicide watch, was ignored by a nearby guard as she was flashing her light on and off. Had this guard possessed even slight concern for human life, Dez would still be with us. To date, EPSO has continually shut out Dez's family and the families of other victims, refusing to explain themselves or apologize.
El Paso County Sheriff's Office has repeatedly shown that they have no concern for the well-being of inmates. If we do not rise up to challenge this murderous institution, they will carry on with their negligence and indifference towards human suffering. Please, join us in demanding accountability from and independent civilian oversight over the El Paso County Jail. Being locked in jail should not be a death sentence.
