Mental Health Staff at the NW Kaiser Gender Pathways Clinic (GPC) have been informed that Kaiser Permanente has made a final decision to restructure the department and layoff two highly specialized mental health therapists, which is likely to lead to significant delays in gender affirming medical treatment and mental health care. Incredibly, Kaiser has decided to make these changes, without consulting Labor in partnership, without discussing the changes with impacted staff and practitioners, and without consulting representatives of the transgender and non-binary community to determine how these changes may negatively impact gender affirming care. This is simply not acceptable. We demand Kaiser Permanente halt the decision to restructure the Gender Pathway Clinic and stop the effort to unnecessarily layoff highly qualified gender affirming Mental Health specialists. Kaiser must sit down with all impacted stakeholders to discuss the changes in process based on partnership and collaboration and find a way to move forward that won’t disrupt medical treatment for transgender and non-binary individuals.
