Stop Denhi Donis's Ellis Act Eviction

Landlords - Thorsten Gernoth and Blanca Estela Rodriguez

Members of the SouthEast Tenants Association are organizing to keep Denhi Donis housed. After 15 years of tenancy, raising kids as single mom and fighting cancer, this beloved senior known as The Flower Lady of Bernal is fighting her second Ellis Act eviction in 2 years from Apple tech engineer Thorsten Gernoth and partner Blanca Estela Rodriguez. The Southeast Tenant Association, of which Denhi is a member, is organizing to prevent wealthy elites from using state loopholes like the Ellis Act and Costa Hawkins to push out tenants, ruin lives and deplete our rent-controlled housing stock.

Join the next rally to keep Denhi Donis in her home and community: Monday, May 16th, 2022, at 5:30pm, 121 Ellert Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.

Consider donating to Denhi’s daughter’s fundraising efforts to raise money for her mom's legal fees.

We demand that you be a good neighbor and drop the Ellis Act Eviction of senior and beloved Bernal neighbor Denhi Donis. By purchasing the rent-controlled home knowing that it is tenant occupied, you signed up to be a landlord. You should not be exploiting a state law, which is meant for mom and pop landlords who no longer have the capacity to run their properties, in order to displace a senior tenant. San Francisco cannot afford to lose more low-income tenants and rent controlled housing to wealthy residents who evict people and destroy lives for personal gain.

Denhi has lived in her home for over fifteen years and deserves the right to stay and age there with dignity. She is a cancer survivor with ongoing medical conditions. Her home lacks heat and a working stove. You have ignored her request for repairs and forced her to spend the last two years worried and overwhelmed with the stress of where she will live if you continue pushing this Ellis Act Eviction.

Denhi, “The Flower Lady” of Bernal, raised her kids as a single mom, survived cancer, and is cherished by her community. We implore you to have a heart, act ethically, and let Denhi stay! Drop this Ellis Act eviction and instead focus on making the repairs you’ve neglected for the past two years.
