Labour, don't back down on your climate promises!

The climate crisis requires urgent action. And we know that investment on cutting carbon emissions can transform our country for the better in so many ways, including creating good new green jobs, improving transport systems and improving housing.*

These measures are all popular with the public, yet with the Conservative Party seeking to weaponise Labour's promise to invest in climate action, this vital spending pledge risks being lost. So we're calling on Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves and the Labour Party to keep their promises.

We need a government that will make essential investment for the public good, creating jobs around the country. So we're calling on Labour to be confident, not to buckle to pressure from right-wing media, or give in to the damaging ideology of austerity - to do what the country needs to ensure a safe future for all of us.

* Lord Stern and a team at the LSE recently calculated an increase in annual public investment by about 1% of GDP (about £26 billion) was needed to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, reversing decades of underinvestment and ensuring a healthy economy.

When the Tories are going back on policies on climate change, Labour should not buckle to the same pressures from the right wing media and friends of fossil fuels.

The latest report from Lord Stern at the London School of Economics shows that public investment of £28 billion a year is a minimum of what is needed.

Tackling the climate, cost of living and energy crises together is popular. It gives us hope that there is a clear difference between the parties.

Don't take that away – stick with the plans you promised us!
