Legislature: Let Floridians testify virtually

Florida State Legislature

The upcoming legislative session will be high-stakes -- we already know that we’ll be facing tough fights over Floridians’ right to protest, participate in our democracy, and get relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But if we want to join those conversations and hold our legislators accountable, we’ll have to put our health and safety at risk -- the Florida Legislature is barring residents from testifying virtually about the issues that matter most to their communities.

The only way we can testify is by going to the statehouse in-person -- with cases of COVID-19 popping up almost constantly and multiple representatives refusing to take the vaccine. [1]

That’s unacceptable -- we should be able to meaningfully engage with our lawmakers without worrying about bringing COVID-19 home to our families.

ADD MY NAME: Floridians deserve an open, honest, and accountable democracy -- we must be allowed to testify from home during the upcoming legislative session.

Floridians deserve an open and honest democracy that is accountable to the people, but the COVID-19 pandemic presents a new challenge in our fight for transparency. Our state legislature must allow Floridians to testify virtually, so that they can offer crucial insights into the issues that matter most to their communities without jeopardizing their health or safety.
