We, the undersigned members of UNITE HERE Local 34, commit to see Yale through the unprecedented crisis.

As we negotiate our contracts, we ask that Yale commit to us in the short term and the long term: Protect every job. Protect our wages and benefits. Protect our health and health care.

Our jobs are good jobs. During this pandemic, the standard we’ve built allows us to care for our families, including unemployed spouses, children at home, and parents; to have good medical care, now more important than ever; and to retire with dignity. We can provide stability in the face of devastation not only to ourselves, but to our neighbors and communities.

We are glad Yale has been a responsible employer. But at this pivotal moment, Yale has the opportunity to invest its vast resources both on campus and in the New Haven community. From previous crises we know the University will not just survive but prosper. Yale must contribute its fair share to the City of New Haven and expand the number of good union jobs on campus. This will ensure the University and the community will recover together.
