Driver's Licenses for all Immigrants

For over 10 years, undocumented immigrants in Michigan have not been able to obtain or renew driver's licenses. This means that for over 10 years, immigrants have lived with the fear that they may be pulled over and detained for simply driving to work or to pick up their children from school. Lack of access to driver's licenses has led to ICE detention, deportation, and family separation, affecting thousands of members of our Michigan community.
Enough is enough. All residents in Michigan should be able to live their daily lives with the basic dignity of driving without fear. Currently, 14 states allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, including New York and Oregon that just passed legislation in the last few months. It is time for Michigan to become the 15th state and pass a law allowing Driver's Licenses for all.
