The Democratic Party needs new leadership. New leadership that listens to and will act on the voices of everyday Americans, not just powerful elites like Wall Street and profiteering corporations. Rep. Keith Ellison has distinguished himself as a champion of the people. Under Rep. Ellison's leadership, the DNC will be transformed into a vehicle for winning elections by showing Americans that they have a seat at the table in a new Democratic movement.

Senator Bernie Sanders has said that he would support Rep. Keith Ellison as Democratic National Committee chair. We agree that Rep. Ellison is the right choice.

It is unacceptable that Donald J. Trump is our president-elect. In a year that saw the insurgent passion of Bernie Sanders supporters send the distinct message to the DNC that A) the people demand change, and B) people are willing to put real effort behind a party and candidates who will represent the American people's interests, we are disappointed that the current DNC leadership could not - or would not - effectively embrace the people's clear and unequivocal message.

We see the Democrats' loss of the 2016 presidential election and the failure to win majorities in the House and Senate as regrettable missed opportunities. We tried to tell you in the primaries, and at the convention, that the status quo was not only corrupt and wrong, but that it could not win the hearts and minds of American voters.

We were right then.

You should listen to us now.

America needs a Democratic party that clearly and unequivocally stands for working people.

Voters have shown that they will support Republican candidates who talk the talk on listening to working class and everyday Americans, despite having no credibility and despite having track records that undermine their rhetoric. Imagine what an authentic Democratic party with principled, effective leaders like Keith Ellison and Bernie Sanders, can do to inspire and mobilize the people in 2018, 2020 and beyond.

For the sake of the Democratic Party and for the sake of our country, we demand that Rep. Keith Ellison be appointed as chair of the Democratic National Committee.
