McDonald's Go Plant-Based by 2025!

McDonald's UK

In order to prevent habitat destruction, climate change, animal suffering, human suffering and future pandemics we must transition to a just, sustainable plant-based food system. We are calling on McDonalds to lead the way by pledging to transition to a fully plant-based menu by 2025.

McDonalds is lagging behind other chain restaurants in shifting its menu - Wagamama and Ikea have both pledged to be 50% plant-based in the next couple of years for sustainability reasons. This year Burger King, one of McDonald's biggest rivals, announced that they would be focusing on meat reduction in order to reach their science based emission targets. As the biggest and most well-known fast food chain, why is McDonald's not leading the way?

All living beings deserve freedom and justice. McDonald's contributes to the deaths of billions of animals per year, many of whom are raised and killed in the worst conditions imaginable. The vast majority of people are animal lovers, yet companies like McDonald's continue to fund the confinement, torture and premature death of chickens, pigs, cows and fish.

A 2019 EAT-Lancet Report found that in order to feed a population of 10 billion within planetary boundaries, we would have to slash our meat consumption by 90% a shift that requires urgent action from companies and corporations. Animal Agriculture contributes 80% of Amazon deforestation with McDonalds being found to source products from illegally deforested areas.

We need to act. We need McDonald's to lead the way. We need a plant-based food system now.
