Take Action: Call on KP to Solve the Staffing Crisis Now

Mid-Atlantic KP President Williams-Brinkley

We, the undersigned employees of Kaiser Permanente and members of UFCW Local 400 and Local 27, call on President Williams-Brinkley to work with our union leaders to develop solutions to the ongoing staffing crisis --- which affects our work and care every day.

Short staffing greatly limits accessibility and impacts our ability to provide the excellent service, safe and high-quality patient care KP members deserve. It leads to burnout out, high staff turnover, increased absenteeism, and decreased productivity and staff morale.  As much as this is a labor/management issue, more importantly, this is a patient care issue.

This unprecedented staffing crisis demands a level of urgency we have not yet seen from Kaiser Permanente leaders. While we are meeting with regional leaders to discuss staffing as part of the Labor-Management Staffing Committees that were established in the 2021-2025 National Alliance – KP Agreement, there are immediate issues around recruitment and retention that require a higher level of attention now. We are seeking to work in partnership to explore solutions such as wage adjustments, retention bonuses, extra shift incentives and ensuring we have a robust backfill strategy in the region. Competing area healthcare institutions are offering significant wage adjustments and other incentives to attract and retain staff. We look forward to discussing how we can do the same.

Our representatives will follow up with your office to schedule a meeting next week.
