Military Families Demand Bill of Rights
All Members of Congress
Secure Families Initiative is calling on Members of Congress to join our bipartisan pledge to support a military family bill of rights.
Background: Since SFI launched our Campaign for PCS Safety last spring, we have been hearing so many heartbreaking stories of indignities that our military families have faced during their military journeys. Navigating the complexities of military life without the support or information needed to make informed decisions leaves many military families experiencing profound fear, sadness, powerlessness, and uncertainty. This often leads to negative health outcomes – and to many of us leaving the military entirely.
Many of these stories have the same root causes: a lack of access to crucial information, support, and recourse while our loved one is serving.
That is why SFI is unveiling the Military Family Bill of Rights. Our grassroots advocates have identified a list of key protections and assurances that collectively would improve safety and dignity outcomes for all families in service. These include:
The right to safety information about your duty station
The right to information from and communication with your command
The right to expert resources for your children
The right to caregiving leave
The right to know when commands are not complying with DoD directives
The right to timely resolution for disputes
The right to privacy for your children
The right to a dependent Home of Record
Military families deserve a foundational bill of rights, to ensure that no spouse or child falls through the cracks. And we need your help to make it happen.
Our Ask: We are urging Members of Congress to join our bipartisan pledge to support a Military Family Bill of Rights. We are making this push NOW for two reasons. #1: These rights are long overdue! And it is especially urgent that we right these wrongs as military families face increased uncertainty regarding future wartime ops tempo. How can we be warfighting ready without protecting our families here at home?
#2: Congress is gearing up to vote on the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act, which provides a powerful opportunity to translate these rights into law.
You can help our movement by signing this petition alongside hundreds of other military families.
We know this call to action may stir up feelings of vulnerability, but our elected officials need to hear our stories - stories that are real, raw, and unapologetic. Together, we need to use our voices to explain why national security is at risk when military families are in danger.

Military families are the backbone of our nation’s security. Yet too many in our community have faced indignities and fallen through support cracks over the course of their service journey. As our country faces increased uncertainty regarding future wartime operational tempo, it is imperative that lawmakers act with urgency to ensure families have the support they need to serve with safety and dignity.
We are writing to ask you to join a bipartisan pledge supporting a military family bill of rights. These protections are long overdue and would go far in closing crucial gaps in military family support.
Whether a spouse is deployed or at home, military families need a system that safeguards us - offering support when we feel unsafe or unsure where to turn.
When we face fear, confusion, or danger, we need to know who to call - knowing who will stand up for our rights, and who will ensure our safety.
Please show the military families who live and vote in your state that you have our backs while we’re fighting to protect yours.
