[Your Name]
Dear Mr. Van Koeverden,
We trust this letter finds you in good health. We are a group of residents of Milton and echo what is being said in thousands of conversations around Milton and across the country. And that is our deep concern regarding the position our country has taken on the genocide of the people of Gaza.
Every year we celebrate the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, honoring the children who never returned home. And yet we as a nation are supporting an even worst injustice happening right in front of our eyes. The unfolding events of the past few months leading to a genocidal loss of innocent lives, 26,000 and counting, most of them being women and children. And now despite the ICJ ruling and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, our government has decided to cut funding for a critical humanitarian operation based on an allegation from the perpetuators of war crimes.
Therefore, we, your constituents, implore you to voice the following demands to your colleagues in Parliament:
1. Recall Canada's ambassador to Israel immediately until Israel abides by the UN GA
resolution “demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire”.
2. Suspend all trade with Israel until they end their apartheid against the Palestinians.
3. Halt all arms exports to Israel to prevent Canada's complicity in the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians.
4. Cease all Canadian military assistance to the IDF.
5. Make it illegal for any Canadian to join the IDF in their campaign of genocide and terrorism.
6. Commit to upholding International Humanitarian Law and refer Israel to the ICC for
investigation and prosecution for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
We expect you to bring these demands to the attention of your colleagues, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, and the Prime Minister.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope you will actively engage in matters of global significance, demonstrating your commitment to justice, human rights, and the values that define our community and country.
Kind regards,
Residents of Milton.
