Calling Script:

"Hi, my name is __________. I'm calling to demand that Mountaire Farms guarantees all workers, including temporary workers, will NOT lose their jobs if they choose to stay home due to COVID-19 concerns and that all workers receive paid leave immediately. It's unacceptable that Mountaire Farms, worth over $2 billion, is putting the lives of its workers at risk to make a profit. Mountaire Farms must immediately offer paid leave to ALL of their workers. Mountaire Farms has a duty to do the right thing right now."

In case, Mountaire Farms says they're already offering paid leave, ask them: "Are you offering paid leave to EVERY Worker, including every temporary/ contract worker, if they feel unsafe going to work? Has this information been made accessible in their native language? How many workers have taken your paid leave offer? Can you guarantee there won't be any repercussions to people choosing not to come to work?"

Mountaire Farms has confirmed 8 new cases, bringing their total to 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Siler City alone. Workers believe it's more than that. More info here: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/coronavirus/article242169861.html

More info:

Vulnerable workers & families need your help.

Mountaire Farms, worth over $2 billion, is risking the lives of over 1,500 people, mostly Latinx immigrants, in Siler City, NC, and elsewhere, just to continue making a profit.

Recently, Mountaire workers were told that there are 3 confirmed COVID-19 cases among employees and that the plant will remain open until there are 20 confirmed cases. Workers are still expected to show up for work and have been threatened with termination if they do not. There is potentially at least four additional unconfirmed cases.

Mountaire Farms is using scare tactics to prevent workers from being safe.

Workers have also been told that if the plant closes, workers, including temporary workers, will receive no paid leave. Temporary workers will be fired, and will have to reapply if they want their jobs back in the future, while also being told current temporary workers most likely won't be rehired.

Workers are at great risk of being exposed to COVID-19 as they work together in close proximity.
This also puts their families at risk of being exposed. If they do not show up, workers could be fired, and not have the income to support their families.
