Mr. Norton, Stand against rent gouging! / Señor Norton, ¡manifiéstese contra las rentas exorbitantes!
Mr. Edward Norton
Edward Norton’s grandparents, Jim and Patty Rouse, founded Enterprise Community Partners in 1982 to provide support and resources to community leaders around the country working to improve their neighborhoods. MHAction leaders share Enterprise’s belief that all families deserve a safe, healthy, and affordable place to call home.
Unfortunately, today, some areas of Enterprise's work are at odds with that vision. Enterprise Community Partners' mortgage banking subsidiary, Bellwether Enterprise, financed Havenpark Capital's purchase of manufactured home communities across the Midwest. MHAction leaders living in these communities are facing $100-200 rent and fee increases and loss of their beloved neighbors. Residents were astonished to learn that their pain is helping to fund Enterprise, an organization that claims to hold our same values.
That's why MHAction leaders are calling on Ed Norton to protect the honorable legacy of his grandparents. They are asking Mr. Norton stand with them against rent gouging to call on Enterprise Community Partners to take residents' concerns seriously and endorse state policy protections that residents need to stay in their homes, including rent justification, good cause eviction protections, and opportunity to purchase laws, and ensure Havenpark adopts these reforms into their business practices.

[Your Name]
We believe you and your fellow board members at Enterprise Community Partners stand by the founding values of your grandparents, Jim and Patty Rouse, and are committed to advancing the goal of healthy, affordable homes for all.
That’s why we are calling on you to join with manufactured home community residents and supporters across the country and to urge Enterprise Community Partners to listen to residents and address the harms caused by Bellwether Enterprise's financing to Havenpark Capital.
The for-profit mortgage banking subsidiary of Enterprise Community Partners, Bellwether Enterprise, has financed Havenpark Capital's purchase of manufactured home communities across the Midwest. MHAction leaders living in these communities are facing giant rent and fee increases and loss of their beloved neighbors, and see no significant investments in their communities that justify the rent increases. Residents were astonished to learn that their suffering is helping to fund Enterprise, an organization that prides itself on advancing affordable, healthy communities.
Residents like JoJo, an 86-year-old woman who has lived in her community for 15 years, are struggling to stay in their homes and are coming together to fight for their communities. JoJo has faced a nearly $200 increase in monthly rent and fees since Havenpark came in. She has to work at a grocery store, despite the pandemic, to make ends meet. She's joining with others to fight for her community, because like the bold women with whom Jim Rouse partnered, JoJo has a "fierce dedication to [her] own neighborhood and a real understanding of its needs."
JoJo and other Havenpark residents need your help and Enterprise’s help. Please join JoJo and her neighbors in their fight and urge Enterprise Community Partners to take residents' concerns seriously and endorse state policy protections that residents need to stay in their homes, including rent justification, good cause eviction protections, and opportunity to purchase laws, and ensure Havenpark adopts these reforms into their business practices.
Thank you for your commitment to protecting affordable housing and advancing healthy, vibrant communities for all.
