Musicians demand: Extend the $600!

The President of the United States, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, US Congress

The public health crisis is far from over. When the pandemic does subside, performances for live audiences will be the last thing to return. While musicians, actors, dancers, stage crew, and countless others face a long road without our key source of income, congress is debating our survival.

If you work in the live event sector in any capacity, please sign this petition to demand that the $600 federal unemployment benefits be extended through the end of this year.

As musicians and other live events workers, we call on congress to extend federal COVID-19 unemployment benefits.

COVID-19 has required us to put live events on hold. By cancelling every concert, every play, every musical, every festival and nearly every other performance for live audiences since March 11th, 2020, we have prevented thousands of potentially disastrous "super-spreading" events.

But every worker whose job is on hold has paid a heavy price. While the country's response to the pandemic depends on limiting large gatherings, our families are depending on us. Hundreds of thousands of us who have built professional careers and steady income through live performance must now face the prospect of bankruptcy, foreclosure, eviction, hunger and homelessness.

Musicians, actors, and events crew know that ours is just one industry in crisis. We stand with tens of millions of our fellow Americans who have also lost their jobs due to COVID.

We demand that congress extends the $600 federal unemployment benefit at least through the end of 2020, so that all workers whose careers have been put on hold are able to survive and contribute to a robust economic recovery.
