No Book Bans in Michigan Schools!

Michigan Legislators and School Board Members

Across the state and the country, we're seeing the harmful effects of book bans in schools and libraries. Our young people have a right to learn truth and see themselves reflected in the books that they read.

The books that we are seeing targeted are largely those written by or about queer people and people of color. This is an attack on marginalized communities. It is an attack on our lives and our lived experiences.

We are opposed to the targeted censorship and banning of books containing diverse characters, particularly LGBTQ+ characters and characters of color, that has been happening in schools districts across Michigan. We urge you to take action to protect books from being banned in public schools and libraries by passing policies at the local and state levels.

Sincerely,
Michigan Parents, Caregivers, and Community Members
