No to Air Cargo at EPCAL - Yes to Good Jobs & Clean Air

Riverhead Town Board

As Teamsters, we fight for the health, safety, and livelihoods of all members. That doesn’t stop when we clock out. It is just as important that we live in safe and healthy communities. A proposed air cargo hub in Suffolk County could bring pollution and bad jobs and, as Teamsters, we need to stand together to protect our community.

The proposed EPCAL project in Calverton, near Riverhead, would include an air cargo logistics facility. Amazon has been named by the developer and town leaders as a possible tenant. It would bring noise, pollution, and threaten the local environment and quality of life of residents.

Long Island deserves good jobs. Amazon pays workers half as much to do the same job we do as Teamsters. The company’s influence has increased quotas across the industry. What used to be a five-day workweek that allowed time for family has become a grueling, work-when-we-say-you-do job.

Last summer, New York Teamsters and local residents saved a community park in Freeport from being bulldozed for an Amazon or other e-commerce warehouse. When Joint Council 16 and Local 804 learned of the EPCAL project, it became clear that it was time to act. Teamsters Locals 1205, Local 237, Local 202, and Local 282 immediately joined the fight as well. Can we count on you to take a stand against an Amazon or other air cargo warehouse in Calverton? We need Teamster members to sign petitions, talk to neighbors, and attend town meetings.
