Now More Than Ever Protect Healthcare Heroes on the Frontlines of COVID-19

Governor Phil Murphy

Covid-19 is making history in healthcare. The eyes of the world are on us. The day to day devastation has no rest for nurses who, on a daily basis, are providing comfort for those that are dying alone while too often watching our colleagues falling to the devastation themselves. Knowing first-hand how horrible it is for the patient and the families who cannot share this time together. There is no rest as we stay away from our own families to protect them from the risk of contracting this virus that has invaded our world. Nurses should not have to beg Hackensack Meridian Health to recognize what the world already sees. True heroes.

Show support for Healthcare Heroes by signing the petition. Join us in calling on Governor Murphy to urge Hackensack Meridian Health to give nurses a fair contract that respects their voices and protects them as they continue to save lives during this battle against COVID-19.

We, the community who are served by nurses and healthcare workers, urge you to demand that Hackensack Meridian Health CEO, Robert Garrett, listen to the healthcare heroes who are fighting for a contract that protects all of us. Those healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 battle are saving lives and too often they are the last and only person to hold the hands of our loved ones when they have lost their battle fighting COVID-19. We need you to send a message to Hackensack Meridian Health that now is not the time to penalize their staff. Now is the time to provide these unionized nurses, these frontline heroes bargaining for a fair contract with:

1) Input on developing pandemic preparedness plans to coordinate training, supplies and staffing;

2) Fair distribution of Personal Protective Equipment to all staff;

3) Effective training and testing to ensure all staff know how to protect themselves and their patients;

4) Staffing levels and assignments that are safe, appropriate, and based on the expertise of each staff member;

5) Assurances that frontline caregivers will be properly paid, and when payroll errors do occur those workers will be compensated in a timely manner to reduce the financial hardship on those who are putting their lives on the line to save lives;
