Ohio General Assembly: End Employee Misclassification!
Ohio General Assembly
Too many employers across Ohio are purposely misreporting and misclassifying the job status of hard-working people as independent contractors — instead of actual employees — to deny them pay, benefits and job security. A 2015 study by the National Employment Law Project estimated that there were 459,000 misclassified workers in Ohio, costing workers the wages they deserve and depriving our schools of tax revenue.
It’s a sleight of hand that not only hurts workers but penalizes our communities as well. Our whole state is losing critical tax revenue and unemployment insurance contributions because companies are skirting the rules to cut costs and shifting the burden of paying taxes to workers.
Sign this petition now and let your state legislator know that it’s time to end this abuse of workers in Ohio.
