Old Folks Demand: Virginia A.G., Hold MVP Accountable!
Jason Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia
The Mountain Valley Pipeline is currently tearing into our mountains and streams with reckless fervor; they are causing permanent damage that violates our environmental laws. The Virginia Attorney General has the power to hold them accountable and the MVP frontline needs your support to demand he do his job!
The MVP has violated a consent decree with the Commonwealth of Virginia, issued October 11, 2019. Blatant examples of decree violations such as “visible and measurable sediment deposition off of the right of way onto adjacent property” and “sediment off of the right of way into surface waters” have been reported – and ignored.
The Virginia Attorney General has the authority and the duty to enforce this decree and make MVP pay fines for their violations.
Additionally, it is the job of the A.G.’s colleagues at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to take prompt action regarding the dozens of violations wrought by MVP and reported to the agency by community members. The A.G. must ask the DEQ to issue MVP a stop work order based on their numerous reported violations of Virginia's environmental laws.
Once the petition reaches 1,000 signatures, Deborah Kushner, Alan Moore, and Bridget Kelley-Dearing will deliver the petition to A.G. Miyares in the spirit of their 2021 action to stop MVP.
These three formidable old folks have never wavered in their support for the MVP frontline. They are ready to walk, rock, and wheel over to the A.G.’s office as soon as we amass the one-thousand-strong pressure of this petition!
