Oppose Abolishing the Vancouver Park Board
Ken.Sim@vancouver.ca
Mayor Ken Sim's plan to abolish the duly elected Park Board, which has existed for 130 years, is undemocratic and without any precedent or mandate. Nor is there any mandate for the Province to act on such a unilateral request to amend the Vancouver Charter.
There has been no consultation with Indigenous Nations, residents, community, stakeholders, park board workers, community centre associations, sports groups, etc.
This politically motivated decision was top-down and has fractured the ABC party, with three Park Board Commissioners now sitting as independents.

I am writing to oppose the proposal to abolish the Vancouver Park Board, which is without precedent or mandate.
Any request for amendments to the Vancouver Charter regarding the Park Board should only come following consultation with Indigenous Nations, residents, community, stakeholders, park board workers, community centre associations, sports groups, and others.
