Protect Our Health and Our Jobs at JCI

Chris Thom, JCI Director of Labor and Employee Relations

During COVID-19, our health and our jobs are at risk. Avoiding shut-downs requires the safest working conditions possible. None of us should suffer lost wages or healthcare because we came to work during this outbreak. We should be paid fairly for working during COVID-19.

Dear Mr. Thom,

Workplace safety cannot be “business as usual” at Johnson Controls (JCI) during this health crisis. The coronavirus spreads before we even know we have it. Many manufacturers shut down indefinitely due to outbreaks of COVID-19 among their workers. Yet JCI has no consistent corporate-wide COVID-19 prevention program.

Therefore, we challenge JCI to save lives and protect our jobs. We demand JCI provide the following:

1. Paid Quarantine: Anyone with potential exposure that is sent home will be paid, and will not have to use our sick or vacation leave.

2. No loss of healthcare: Anyone laid-off or sent home for reasons related to COVID-19 will not lose health insurance.

3. Hazard Pay: Hazard premium of $3/hour will be paid as long as COVID-19 is spreading in our state.

4. Better cleaning and safety protocols: Increased cleaning at entrances and exits, workstations, restrooms, and dining areas. Increased physical distancing with staggered breaks and barriers where possible. Additional breaks for hand washing.

5. Personal Protection Equipment: Supply high quality face masks and gloves as needed, touchless sanitation kiosks at entrances and exits, breakrooms, and clock-in stations. No retaliation for requesting protective equipment.

Sincerely,

JCI Employees
