Pass Federal Data Privacy Legislation!

Congress

We have watched lawmakers push bad internet bills long enough. These bills distract us from what’s really going on and serve to protect the Big Tech giants like Meta, Amazon, and Google that systematically collect our data, and dangerous data brokers that share it with anyone for the right price. We need comprehensive privacy legislation at the federal level that prioritizes people — not corporations — and puts us back in control of our personal information.

Tell your members of Congress: “I urge you to support a strong data privacy law that protects the rights of real people and to prevent institutions from using data in ways that deprive people of their basic human rights.”

As your constituent, I urge you to support a strong data privacy law that protects the rights of real people and to prevent institutions from using data in ways that deprive people of their basic human rights.

I should have the right to opt-in before my data is collected, and have the right to delete my data at any time. I also deserve to know who is collecting my data, for how long, and whether it will be traded or sold to third parties.

If a company violates my personal data, I demand the right to take them to court. This means you must support a full private right of action, including class action, as part of any data privacy legislation that is passed into law. And if my data is breached, I deserve to be notified immediately.

Far too often consumer rights are enforced at the local rather than federal level. Please oppose any federal legislation that preempts states from passing additional data privacy laws as needed.

I sincerely hope that you will work with your colleagues to pass strong data privacy protections that put consumers first.

Thank you.
