Pass Prescription Drug Price Caps in New Jersey!

Governor Phil Murphy, New Jersey State Legislators

The outrageous cost of insulin, asthma inhalers and Epi-Pens is forcing New Jersey residents with chronic conditions to cope with financialized medical discrimination. In addition to facing impoverishment for their medical needs, they also pay with their health – and sometimes with their lives.

To Governor Murphy and our New Jersey Legislators,

Hi, I'm __________. I'm a New Jersey resident, and I'm very concerned about the high cost of prescription drugs for those managing chronic conditions in our state. People managing diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, and other chronic conditions routinely struggle to afford their medications, on top of the challenges associated with controlling these illnesses. This crisis in affordability often leads these folks to ration their medications, which is very dangerous and often deadly.

The prescription drug price cap bills that were introduced in the New Jersey legislature in February of 2022 would address some of these medical costs, and are a step in the right direction. However, as of April 2023, these bills have yet to be signed into law. For the mercy of those struggling to afford the price of their medication, our lawmakers must act to pass these price caps with all deliberate speed.

New Jersey lawmakers must take steps to fulfill the promise of their price cap bills, and expand coverage for all formularies of these drugs for ALL New Jersey residents, regardless of their insurance status.
All formularies, not insurers’ preferred brands
Expand access to uninsured/undocumented folks
Public engagement before passage

It's time to finish the job. Don't delay any longer -- pass these price caps as quickly as possible, as comprehensively as possible.

Sincerely,
