Slow the process down
Governor Pritzker had plans for this project for over 4 years. Groundbreaking is supposed to start in winter 2025. Why rush from announcement to groundbreaking in only a few months?
We call on Governor Pritzker to meet with our community in good faith to ensure community benefits prioritized by community members before beginning construction.
Protect the environment and our health
Public transparent environmental impact study and environmental impact plan that includes:
effects on water, noise, emissions, chemical use, thermal pollution, and a
clear, transparent assessment of site contamination, remediation plans, & risk mitigations
Remediate toxic contaminants on location, underground, in waterways, incl. heavy metals, diesel
Continued access to & improved amenities for the lakefront, neighboring parks, athletic facilities
Voluntary health testing for residents to assess toxic load
Guarantee jobs and education for our community
Create jobs pipeline for Southeast residents throughout development process: competitive jobs with living or prevailing wages for local neighborhood residents before, during, & after construction
Invest in our neighborhood schools and education of southeast side students to train for next generation jobs
Provide job training, paid internships for students, and pathway to careers for local residents
Development without displacement
Offer tax relief for homeowners and long-term residents
Provide and maintain affordable housing for current residents
