Petition to Drop Biomass from RCEA’s Power Mix

Redwood Coast Energy Authority - Participating Governments

40% of RCEA's "renewable energy" comes from a recurrent violator of the Clean Air Act – a biomass plant which emits more carbon than coal. Dumping biomass would redirect $15 million of our ratepayer dollars to real clean energy.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Redwood Coast Energy Authority to honor its promise to provide 100% clean energy by 2025 and stop funding biomass incineration.

BIOMASS INCINERATION IS DIRTY ENERGY. 15% of Humboldt County's electricity comes from burning mill waste in a biomass power plant, which emits more carbon dioxide and as much toxic air pollution as coal. Humboldt Sawmill's plant has repeatedly violated the Clean Air Act. There are cleaner, more beneficial uses for mill waste.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Redwood Coast Energy Authority to honor its promise to provide 100% clean energy by 2025 and stop funding biomass incineration.
