In the wake of recent changes in immigration policies, I demand that Milwaukee Public Schools become a sanctuary district to better serve and protect all students regardless of status.

I am asking you to pass a resolution that provides the following support to students:

• Remind and affirm that every student (k-12) has the right to an education as held in the case of Plyler v. Doe
• Refrain from cooperating with ICE or any agency acting as such (allowing them on school premises and or sharing students’ confidential information)
• Create a rapid response plan in case of a raid involving parents/guardians
• Connect students and their families to legal, social, and medical services as needed
• Develop professional development for staff and faculty

Our students and families in Milwaukee cannot wait any longer. You have the power to stop the separation of families and I expect that you will.

Dado a los cambios recientes relacionados con inmigración, Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES), demanda que el distrito de MPS se convierta en un santuario para mejor servir y proteger a todos estudiantes independientemente de su estatus migratorio

Al convertirse en un santuario, MPS tendrá que proveer el siguiente apoyo a estudiantes:

• Recordar y afirmar que cada estudiante (k-12) tiene el derecho a obtener una educación como indicado en Plyler v. Doe

• Tener ninguna cooperación con ICE (permitir que entren en propiedad escolar o que obtengan información confidencial de estudiantes)

• Crear un plan de respuesta rápida en caso de que un padre o madre sea detenido por ICE

• Conectar a estudiantes y a sus familias con recursos legales, sociales, o médicos

• Desarrollo profesional para el personal escolar
