Petition to Save the UC Townhomes: Stop Displacement of Black Families
Altman Management, The City of Philadelphia, The University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and National Real Estate Advisors
In July 2021, Altman Management informed over 68 families at the UC Townhomes, a private, HUD-subsidized housing development in West Philadelphia at 3900-3990 Market, that they would be selling the property and displacing families into an increasingly expensive and limited Philadelphia housing market.
Luxury high-rises for university students and science research complexes are pushing out one of the few remaining Black communities left in this area. Children are being forced to leave their schools and safe play spaces; elders, moms, and disabled residents will lose their proximity to hospitals and public transportation.
Join us in urging Altman Management, the City of Philadelphia, the universities of Penn and Drexel, and the luxury developer and potential buyer, National Real Estate Advisors, to put people over profit by:
Keeping the UC Townhomes site 100% affordable for very low-income seniors, residents and working families.
In signing this petition, I commit to stand with my neighbors & take action to defend low-income affordable housing at the UC Townhomes.

I support the UC Townhomes residents’ fight for their homes and for the preservation of very low-income housing at the site. Stop displacing Black and Brown families from the historic Black Bottom neighborhood. Stop the demolition of the UC Townhomes.
