We have all watched in horror the deaths, injuries and injustices caused by needless confrontations between police and citizens – mostly people of color. I urge you to take concrete steps to end excessive force and overly aggressive behavior by police. Death, injury and injustice result from needless confrontation between officers and citizens – especially people of color. THIS MUST STOP NOW!
Please ban potentially fatal physical restraints. Please require our officers to stop aggressively asserting their authority and their need to dominate. Please increase training in de-escalating tensions, and make it the priority.
Certainly, most law enforcement officers are hard working men and women, who often put their own safety at risk to protect ours. Please tell our excellent officers to stop enabling bad behavior of colleagues through silence. Require them to report it.
