On 20th May 2020, the Prime Minister attended a garden party in number 10 Downing Street with dozens of his employees.

While we were staying home, while loved ones gave birth, or died, or were buried alone - the Prime Minister partied.

It is right that we are furious. It is fair that we feel abandoned. And yes - the Prime Minister should resign.

But there is another side to this story.

How is it that this apparent breach of coronavirus regulations was able to take place in a building heavily guarded by the Metropolitan Police?

Why hasn’t the Metropolitan Police investigated the previously leaked parties, such as the one on the 18th December 2020?

Can a civil servant, who is ultimately answerable to the Prime Minister, really be able to lead an independent inquiry?

We believe that the public deserves the truth.

We believe that someone answerable to the Prime Minister cannot be impartial.

And we believe the Metropolitan Police have a duty to investigate without fear or favour.

Baroness Jenny Jones, a Green peer in the House of Lords, has written to the IOPC and Scotland Yard to demand action. But so far they’ve failed to step up.

We need your help.

Dear Commissioner,

We are writing to urge you to investigate repeated breaches of Coronavirus Regulations at Downing Street.

The Prime Minister has now confessed to Parliament at least one gathering took place at Downing Street which involved alcohol.

This garden party raises big questions for Met Police, as their officers must surely have monitored this gathering via their security cameras and been aware of the rules in place at the time.

The Met Police's assertion that there is insufficient evidence to investigate further is untenable.

The police are losing public trust with their attitude that there are lots of rules for us and no rules for Conservative Ministers.

The Met Police must now start a formal criminal investigation, gather evidence, and speak to witnesses as a matter of urgency.

Yours,
