Premium Pay is Hero Pay
Mayor Michael Hancock & Governor Jared Polis
Like many essential workers during the last 16 months, Denver Health and UCHealth workers continued to show up and do the necessary work to heal and protect our communities, often at great risk to themselves and their families. Unlike many other essential workers, these healthcare heroes did not receive any hazard pay for this additional risk. Funds from the American Rescue Plan seek to remedy this by providing states and municipalities with the money to pay these workers for this risk and financial hardship.
We kept going when the world stopped. We were paid the same wages despite the circumstances. The ARP is acknowledging the services we provided and is providing the opportunity to pay us back for our sacrifices. Let’s not allow anything to stand in the way of frontline workers being compensated properly. Join us by signing on today to appeal to Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Colorado Governor Jared Polis to use money from the American Rescue Plan to provide hero pay for our frontlines.

We, as workers and union members, are calling on the Colorado General Assembly, the City and County of Denver, Denver Health and UCHealth to allocate some of these $3.8 Billion in federal funds to pay ongoing and retroactive premium pay as provided for in the Department of Treasury guidelines.
We further call on our employers and lawmakers to include frontline workers in the discussion and decision making about building out and replenishing our public health and healthcare infrastructure. We are the mental health, addiction recovery and direct care providers for our community and know exactly where these funds are most needed. These funds could greatly increase our ability to provide necessary care to Coloradans and build back stronger.
