President Biden: Thank You for Historic Climate Action

President Biden

Thank President Biden for Historic Climate Action

Thanks to the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration — and the support, advocacy and work of organizers like you — the U.S. is taking giant steps toward a healthy, sustainable future. We are engaging in an urgent transition away from fossil fuels to affordable renewable energy for all, and are protecting our air, water, soil and natural areas.

The Biden-Harris Administration recently put in place significantly stricter regulations for methane, a super-polluting greenhouse gas; acted to restrict deadly soot pollution; and launched the American Climate Corps, providing crucial training to fight the climate crisis. These actions build on the landmark climate and environmental justice wins of the President’s Inflation Reduction Act and other legislation.

America is now a world leader in renewable energy and the rollout of electric vehicles. The signs are abundant and inspiring. Solar energy is the fastest-growing and most affordable source of new electricity in the U.S. The offshore wind industry is expanding rapidly, and in 2023, heat pumps outsold fossil fuel furnaces for the second year in a row. This historic movement toward a sustainable future is possible because of President Biden’s actions and leadership. Top climate achievements of the Biden-Harris Administration include:

  • The Inflation Reduction Act, the largest climate investment in history
  • Protections for over 26 million acres of land and water
  • Stricter regulations for methane, a very potent greenhouse gas
  • Over 200 actions to rescind the previous Administration's egregious environmental rollbacks
  • Launch of the American Climate Corps
  • Exports of Liquefied Natural Gas (mostly methane) paused
  • Environmental justice leadership including Justice40 investments in Black, Brown, Indigenous and frontline communities disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis, and commitments to the UN Loss and Damage Fund
  • And so much more!

Still, the climate crisis is escalating. And the climate deniers, delayers, deflectors and liars continue to obstruct and roll back progress.

We need to have President Biden’s back. We must share and amplify the Biden-Harris Administration’s important work on climate and environmental justice. It is crucial to winning in November and protecting our democracy. And this is how we ensure a vibrant, sustainable future.

Join us in thanking President Biden for his leadership and action on climate, and for all he will continue to do after re-election.

Dear President Biden,

Thank you for providing historic leadership in charting a course toward a more sustainable and equitable future by addressing the existential threat of climate change.

Rejoining the Paris Agreement on Day One of your administration sent a powerful message that the United States was back in the global fight for a sustainable future, and launched your administration’s ambitious environmental and climate agenda. That dedication to global leadership and equity continued at the most recent COP28, where the U.S. signed on to the UN Loss and Damage Fund.

Domestically, your Administration has also made climate and environmental justice a key pillar of its work by taking over 200 actions to rescind the previous Administration’s egregious environmental rollbacks. In addition, your Justice40 Initiative directs that at least 40% of the benefits from federal climate, sustainable housing, and clean energy investments flow to historically and currently marginalized communities.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the largest ever investment in clean energy and climate action. This transformative legislation is projected to save American families more than $27 billion on their electricity bills from 2022-2030. It has created over 170,000 clean energy jobs. And under your leadership, the offshore wind industry is expanding rapidly, heat pumps have outsold fossil fuel furnaces for two consecutive years, and solar energy has become the fastest-growing and most affordable source of new electricity in the U.S.

Your recent launch of the American Climate Corps is inspiring and will train and employ tens of thousands to fight the climate crisis. And your actions to regulate soot pollution and to pause Liquid Natural Gas exports are saving lives and improving the health of Americans — and ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable planet for our youth and future generations.

Thank you for your leadership in addressing the climate crisis. As you have said, the climate crisis is the ultimate threat to humanity. We look forward to your re-election and supporting four more years of urgent, bold climate and environmental justice action!
