Protect the civil rights of trans communities.

Jeff Sessions

November 20, 2017 is Trans Day of Remembrance, a day that honors the lives lost and rekindles the fight for those still living.

Since Trump’s inauguration, this administration has deliberately attacked the civil rights of trans people.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has most recently rescinded an Obama-era policy that ensured trans people were protected in the workplace under the Civil Rights Act. He also sought the dismissal of  a lawsuit challenging Trump’s ban against trans people in the military.

The year is not over, but already 21 anti-trans murders have been reported, most of whom are Black transgender women. This number doesn’t reflect the trans people who go unreported or are reported under their birth name and sex.

The reality is that when a culture of violence is encouraged, children are among those most harmed. All children deserve to grow up with a safe, nurturing environment.

By denying trans people basic rights in public schools, the workplace, and the military, Jeff Sessions is guilty of helping put trans children in danger.

In honor of the lives lost, demand that Jeff Sessions restore and protect the rights of all trans people. If one of us is in danger, all of us have a duty to be protectors. None of us can be idle in the fight against transphobia.

All people deserve to live with safety and dignity. By rescinding policies and guidances protecting trans people, the Trump administration is encouraging a culture of violence against trans people.

In honor of the lives lost, I demand that Jeff Sessions restore and protect the rights of all trans people. If one of us is in danger, all of us have a duty to be protectors.
