Protect Trans Kids and Doctors in Alabama!

Alabama State Legislators, Governor Kay Ivey

Pediatricians know that the evidence is overwhelming: gender-affirming care saves trans kids’ lives.

However, these life-saving treatments are under attack by opportunistic politicians all over the country. Right now in Alabama, some Republican lawmakers are proposing a bill that would make it illegal for doctors to prescribe scientifically-proven gender-affirming care to trans youth, punishable by up to ten years in prison. It would also require educators to inform parents if they even suspect a child is transgender. We could see responsible pediatricians in prison, and children be abused and even die, if this bill becomes a law.

Please sign today and tell the Alabama state legislature and Governor Kay Ivey not to punish doctors and transgender children.

Please oppose HB 266 and SB 184, which would make it illegal for pediatricians, parents, and patients to decide together on proper medical care for transgender children. Decisions about medical treatments for children should be made by the individual, their families, and their medical providers – not the government.

I am deeply troubled to see elected officials like you consider legislation that would take away people's ability to make their own choices when it comes to their own healthcare and their children's. I am also very concerned about the measure in the bill that would also undermine existing protections for both transgender and cisgender children in schools, potentially putting them in danger.
