We are extremely concerned about the future impact of the climate crisis on our families. Croydon declared a climate emergency in 2019, and has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
According to the UN, livestock is responsible for 18% of global emissions- more than all transport combined. In 2018, an Oxford University study stated that the biggest change we can all make to reduce our environmental impact is by adopting a plant-based diet.
Research on school meals shows that a plant-based option has 75% lower greenhouse gas emissions and 75% lower water consumption than its meat counterpart.
We would like you to commit to encouraging schools to move to more plant-based menus, and commit to only serving plant-based meals at Council meetings.
Enfield, Lewisham and Leeds councils have all moved towards plant-based schools and councils- and if they can do it, so can you!
